Greater Manchester Drama Federation

In June 2007, we received the following two awards :

GMDF Youth Trophy for the best youth production, for “Copacabana” staged in October 2006. We are delighted that the whole company and workforce behind the scenes have been honoured with this award.

Naomi Johnson was awarded the Certificate of Promise for her role as Conchita in “Copacabana”, after also being nominated for the same award the previous year for her role as Stella in “Summer Holiday”.

In June 2008 we received the following nominations:

Best Female Performance: Shelley Byrne as ‘Laurey Williams’  in ‘Oklahoma!’

Best Supporting Male Performance: Paul Dawson for ‘Jud Fry’ in ‘Oklahoma!’

 

Certificate of promise: Best Supporting Male Performance (Youth): Jack Robertson for ‘Bernardo’ in West Side Story’ & Peter Rigney for ‘Will Parker’ in the ‘Oklahoma’

 

Costume Design & Creation: for ‘Oklahoma’

 

Best Choreographer: Jill McIntosh ‘West Side Story’

 

Best Musical Director: David Abendstern for ‘West Side Story’

 

Best Director: Jo Weetman for ‘Oklahoma!’

 

Update

Shelley Byrne won best actress for Laurey in Oklahoma

And
the society won best costume design for Oklahoma.

Noda—North West Area

In May 2007 our Musical Director, David Abendstern, received the prestigious award of best musical director for the Hey Kids production of “Copacabana” staged in October 2006. This complements the two other awards that David has received in the last three years as best musical director from the Greater Manchester Drama Federation.

Joanne Lord was also nominated for best artistic direction for “Calamity Jane” in May 2006;

and Jill McIntosh for best choreographer for Hey Kids “Copacabana”.

“Copacabana” was also nominated for the award of best youth production
